Kathleen Davey

A wonderful lady who never forgot a name and always took the opportunity to give words of encouragement and support. Kathleen spread warmth and compassion where ever she went. Kathleen will be missed by all of us in No.8. Jo Watson

  1. A gracious lady, a friend to all. Her sharp mind and generous heart enveloped us without reserve. We are most grateful for the gift of being her friend for a short, meaningful period in our lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ray and the family. Don & Jeannette

  2. An absolute lady!

I remember her and Ray coming to meet with our team on what was the 35th anniversary of corrymeela house, the old one. Her and Ray chatted to us like they'd knew us a long time. They were so cute together, Kathleen would finish off Ray's sentences, like they were speaking with the same mind. I suppose they were in some ways... a truly amazing woman! RIP.

  4. Kathleen was one of the most remarkable people I have ever met. I'm sure many people will comment on her astounding memory, which enabled her to keep tabs on the vast numbers of people who connected with her via Corrymeela and elsewhere. I was a volunteer at the Centre years ago and I rarely get back to Northern Ireland, but she always remembered me and details of my life. She had a spirit which was so affirming to other people, I always felt buoyed by time spent with her. I count her as one of my heroes.

  6. As a volunteer in 96-97, Kathleen always reached out to me since I was halfway around the world from home. She had a way of making you feel known and loved. I have her poems on my bookshelf and often think of her and Ray as true leaders and servants of God. What an inspiration she has been in my life even from the brief year I was privileged to know her. Know that we shall say a prayer for her in Seattle as you all celebrate her life this Monday. Peace, Jenny Farrell

  7. A real lady who taught so many so much. I am so sorry I couldn't make the funeral to celebrate Kathleen's life, her and Ray where an amazing couple that inspired me to find the best in people because its there if you spend the time to find it! Kathleen brought love and sunshine everywhere she went, to think that she is no longer with us leaves a great sadness in my heart. An inspiration, a lovely lady with an amazing memory for names and facts and a great loss to us all, Liza

  8. I only met Kathleen once but they say that behind every great man is a great lady and I imagine that Ray's humble greatness had Kathleen's humble greatness firmly there beside it. By the way I am also convinced that behind every great lady there is a great man and so the generations stay connected. May she rest in peace.

  9. So let us live this life we know
Right to the hilt with thanks and joy,
    Remembering that it merely is
A shadow image of the life to be.

    Kathleen Davey - Time Passes

Kathleen lived her life to the fullest. She was without doubt one of the strongest, yet humble person that I knew. I never can recall a time that she didn't remember someone's name, or even more their story.

I had an opportunity to live with Ray and Kathleen for a short period of time, after my volunteer year with Corrymeela. It truly was an honor and a blessing to me, that they opened their home and their heart. It was an honor to follow Kathleen through her garden and witness the pride she had in working with God's beauty. We had many memorable moments in the garden - Eamonn McCallion and I assisted in creating "Tirella", and old wheel that we mounted to hold hanging flowers.

Kathleen will be dearly missed by all who came in contact with her. I admired her resilience, compassion, stories and the humility in which she interacted with all.

May God hold her in the palm of his hand.

  10. I was very privileged to spend most of my young life growing up around the Centre in Ballycastle and some of my earliest memories are of Ray and Kathleen. I loved them both as though they were grandparents, they treated me with the same love, compassion, support and pastoral leadership that they did so many people who came through the centre, weather it was for a few minutes or many years. People have commented on Kathleen's remarkable memory, this I think was truly remarkable, never have I come across someone with such a capacity to retain names and details of meetings and peoples lives and families. I think that this is in someway reflective of the deep and genuine interest she had in us all and our well being, second to none. To my great sadness I too was unable to make the funeral, this truly was a passing of an era. My thoughts and love are with Ray and the family, I will be forever greatful for the gifts that Kathleen brought to my life.

  12. A beautiful, special, warm, lovely woman. We are so grateful we were able to meet her and Ray and privileged to be part of her last years through Corrymeela. Simeon has a toy sheep she gave him and it will always be treasured!

Every word from her always was confortable and maybe her way to make us feel how identity is too important to the human being.I am from a far away lan, but she always knew where El Salvador was . She was a wonderfull woman but the most important: she was such a good human being.
